Metrology Research Symposium 2026
Theme: “Building Trust in Policy Making”
1. Background
World Metrology Day is celebrated globally on 20 May to commemorate the signing of the Metre Convention on 20 May 1875 by 17 countries. The theme for World Metrology Day 2026 is “Building Trust in Metrology Policy Making”.
In Sri Lanka, the Department of Measurement Units, Standards & Services (MUSSD) serves as the National Metrology Institute. MUSSD establishes and maintains national measurement standards in line with international norms, ensuring accurate and reliable measurements for fair trade, consumer protection, producer equity, and public safety.
To promote Metrology research and strengthen the National Quality Infrastructure (NQI), MUSSD will launch the Metrology Research Symposium 2026 on 20 May 2026 and convene the main symposium in December 2026.
2. Call for Abstracts
MUSSD invites Expressions of Interest and Abstracts for original research and development projects in Metrology from:
- MUSSD laboratories and divisions
- Government research and development institutions
- Universities and higher education institutions
- Accredited and non-accredited calibration and testing laboratories
- Other organizations engaged in measurement-related services
Priority Sectors under NQI:
Priority Sectors under NQI: Trade & Commerce, Industry, Health, Environmental Protection, Road & Public Safety, Resource Monitoring, Food Safety, Energy Efficiency, Medical Metrology, Transportation and any other sector where measurement science is applicable.
Metrology Subject Fields:
Metrology Subject Fields: Mass, Dimension, Time, Electrical, Power & Energy, Temperature, Volume, Pressure, Humidity & Moisture, Force & Torque, Photometry, Chemistry, etc.

Submissions must include a completed Expression of Interest form, available at MUSSD official web; www.measurementsdept
5. Review and Presentation
Submitted abstracts will be peer-reviewed by the MUSSD Scientific Committee. Selected authors will be invited to present their work as oral or poster presentations. Selected abstracts will be published in the Symposium Proceedings.
